I can’t wait to start volunteering again in April

That’s great. My daughter and I were discussing how we would like to volunteer at a soup kitchen or food bank, not just as part of her service projects for school, but just because.

That’s b-a-n-a-n-a-s.
( My office does volunteer events in Madison WI. We had one at the local food pantry last summer. I learned that food is heavy, but also that food pantries are great places to donate your time. )

Our office did half a day at the Houston Food Bank last fall. I learned that most people have no idea how to operate a pallet jack. Even if you get it jacked up for them, they don’t understand how to steer it. I spent the last hour just moving pallets around because I was the only one who had time with a forklift and understood how to move materials without crashing into everything.

Forklifts are more fun, but I imagine they’re a little more selective about who gets to play with them.

You have to know how to back up a car, and most people have no idea how to do that.

My high-schooler has to do volunteer hours to get a citation on his diploma, so our whole family is volunteering. My younger boys (and I, sometimes) bitch about it, but it’s a good family outing.

Only pallet jacks for the volunteers. But the full timers haul ass around the warehouse on those small, square standup lifts . Looks like fun.
